Dinner at Wanton, Seng's Noodle Bar @ Amoy Street (Revisit)

52 Amoy Street, Singapore 069878
Tel: 6221 1336

After visiting Wanton, Seng's Noodle Bar for the first time  (review here), I have been back several times, bringing various friends to try.

For some reason, I really like their noodles. Anyway, I realize they also serve dinner, and the menu is a little different. Instead of serving the noodles in bowls, they do it like zichar concept, where the roasted pork, aburi pork belly, dumplings etc are sold separately, so we would have to order a few dishes plus noodles (optional).

There are also some dishes not available in the daytime menu, such as Dry Bak Kut Teh, Salted Duck Egg Chicken Wings, Herbal Chicken Wings, Almost Drunk Pork Belly and Rojak Salad etc.

On every table, there is a flask of Hot Broth and condiments which we can help ourselves to, such as dark and light soy sauce, chilli sauce, fried pork lard cubes etc.

We had Aburi Pork Belly (SGD$13.00) -  130g of char siew slow-cooked for 18 hours, served with coriander shallot salad. Each pork slice was tender and sweet-tasting.

Egg Noodles (SGD$1.00 per bowl) is the only staple available here, springy and gently tossed in garlic oil to give it a lovely flavor.

Salted Duck Egg Chicken Wings (SGD$10.00) - each piece of fried chicken wing crackled delightfully upon being bitten into, and it was bursting with the tasty salted egg flavor. I loved the sauce - very thick and sandy in texture; there was even a huge salted egg yolk amongst the wings!

Next, steaming hot bowl of soup with Boiled Wantons (SGD$6.00) aka meat dumplings. Loved the succulent minced meat in their very smooth skin and light flavours. You can choose Fried Wantons if you prefer.

Finally, Ju Hua Cocktail (SGD$16.00), an interesting cocktail drink with lychee liqueur, chrysanthemum tea and vodka. It was served in a teapot with tiny tea cups - very interesting, refreshing and tasty.

Service is consistently good - friendly, hospitable and efficient, enhancing the dining experience. I will be back again soon for the tasty food here, maybe order a glass of white wine with my bowl of noodles again, for that quasi-classy feel.

[Poem] Holding On

You've never made it
Easy for me -
Before
The fall,
After the fall;
You held on to my mind
Not my hand.

I used to whisper your name
Just before Bed, like a prayer,
But you were colder,
Than untouched marble;
Coupled with silence,
And just as beautiful.

I chose to let go,
Of these tortures;
Dreaming in the days,
Drinking in the nights;
You had to have your way,
Filling my nightmares,
Sloshed overnight like wines.

Outfit of the Day - leopard print sleeveless dress

While Shakespeare believes that a leopard does not change its spots, Rumi says to, "Be motivated like the falcon, hunt gloriously. Be magnificent as the leopard, fight to win. Spend less time with nightingales and peacocks. One is all talk, the other only color."

Hunting and prowling are my favorite activities..... as a sales manager, it is part and parcel of the job. Introducing the leopard in me.

Lunch at Miam Miam Cafe @ Westgate

3 Gateway Drive #01-21 / 22 Westgate, Singapore 608532
Tel: 6369 9065
Website: http://miam.sg

Having visited this lovely artisanal Japanese Cafe incorporating French ingredients (the Bugis outlet) a couple of times, I decided to recommend the Westgate outlet for my catching up with *Pris.  Review on previous visits at Bugis outlet can be found here.

Nice decor, in fact the same colorful concept as its sister outlet, I find the staff at Westgate friendlier. Here, they also have pretty booths for those who prefer a little privacy.

*Pris took the Miam Miam Spaghetti (SGD$16.80) which has been reviewed in both my previous entries (reviews here) - tasty pasta despite its simple ingredients of tomatoes, bacons, egg and mushrooms.

I opted for Riz Noir Squid Ink Rice (SGD$16.50) which came in a tiny saucepan and Miam Miam's signature souffle egg. Despite it being a tiny pot, portion was actually substantial and generous with squids, prawns and clams. I loved the grainy rice and best of all, robust umami flavour. Squid ink was murky but not overwhelming, but the seafood taste was strong - I believe there is infusion of seafood broth.

Finally, dessert! Their desserts require 15 minutes baking time by the way so you might want to have them start preparing before you finish your mains. We had Caramelised Banana Pancake (SGD$13.80), a warm and fluffy pancake with blueberries and pieces of caramelised bananas, topped with vanilla ice-cream. The caramelised bananas were not too sweet and we enjoyed our delicious dessert very much.

[Poem] Blunt Sword

When his kiss melted into
A pool of bitterness,
And his touch began to
Feel like he was frisking.

When his words began to
Sound like scratched metal,
While his stare hurt her eyes,
She didn't want him to read her.

When his lovemaking was akin
To a blunt sword's stab;
And he no longer had any
Place in her heart and mind.

She knew she had to step out
Of the same space he existed in.
She left a letter, and a cheque,
And walked out into the night.

Dinner at Fumee Restaurant & Bar @ Millenia Walk (Revisit)

9 Raffles Boulevard #01-54 Millenia Walk, Singapore 039596
Tel: 6835 7339
Website: http://fumee.sg

After the fabulous session at Fumee by Habanos (review here), I decided to bring a couple of guy buddies back when we planned a catch-up dinner.

The restaurant was bustling with customers tonight, and not sure if it was because of that (plus the live band playing at the other corner), the noise level was quite high, and wait staff kept hearing us wrong. Minor inconveniences aside, all was okay.

We started with Chicken Hearts (SGD$7.00), every bit as succulent and bouncy as I'd remembered from the previous session here.

Then we had Calamari (SGD$10.00) with truffle relish dip on the side. Flesh was slightly chewy, rather soft, but not crispy as menu stated. The portion was generous for the price.

Following that, Naked Foie Gras (SGD$14.00) - buttery and tender seared foie gras on crispy brioche, with balsamic glaze adding a touch of refreshing zest. This was the winner of the night for us.

Next up, Muah Otah Burger, which differed fron when I last had it as well. Bun was different, but thankfully the thick otah patty was still springy and spicy, enabling us to relish in its texture and taste.

Finally, US Angus Short Ribs (SGD$68.00), with meat so fine, so succulent and moistened, it fell off the racks like a dress. I didn't get back the "wow" feeling of joy as I did the first time when I tasted this, nor did my friends oddly.

Anyway, glad to have returned and tried more items!

[Poem] Bridges of Dreams

What if you'd burned the bridges
Where fame and fortune awaited?

And life turns its pages,
Leaving you alone and scared.

In a spot colder than icicles,
Wishing for time to be stilled.

Watch the sun spill over edges
Lazily, burning dreams to the ground.

[Poem] Giving Up On You

Giving up on you,
Means angry stabs of the pen,
Dark skies with no view,
Lipstick-stained cigarette butts strewn,
Around the room reeking of you,
And I, and mysteries left open.

Giving up on you,
Means blank thoughts, cold smiles,
Conversations with no yield;
Photographs shred into pieces,
Like my heart torn by you,
And my price for those fantasies.

Giving up on you,
Means the demise of "us",
The sun that sets on cue,
The pain, an enveloping sarcophagus;
Holding memories of me and you,
Reflections by moon on black lakes.
