Dinner at Canton Paradise @ Marina Bay Sands

2 Bayfront Avenue #01-02 The Shoppes at Marina Bay Sands, Singapore 018972
Tel: 6688 7052

Guess who's back at a restaurant under The Paradise Group again, within a short span of two weeks? :) This time it isn't Seafood Paradise (review here) though, but Canton Paradise, for I have not tried their dishes before.

Anyway so I attended the Influencer Revolution conference with some relatives and we were looking for a place for dinner. Canton Paradise popped into mind and we headed over.

Starter of Braised Peanuts and pot of Hot Pot were served. As it was peak period during the weekend, we were informed to vacate the table by 1.5 hours; I wasn't pleased with that waitress' attitude but on the other hand, was glad the restaurant was doing well.

Chee Cheong Fun with BBQ Pork (SGD$6.40) aka rice roll, was served first. The rice sheets were pretty smooth, holding moistened, tender and sweet diced BBQ pork within. Pretty good starter.

Then the Platter of 3 BBQ Combination (SGD$30.80) graced the table. We chose BBQ Pork Belly, Chicken and Roast Irish Duck, topping up $2.00 extra for the BBQ Pork Belly which was a tad salty for us.

Next, some Spinach (SGD$12.80) stir-fried with garlic was served. The leafy parts and stalks were soft and dish was tasty.

Following that, there was the Sliced Fish with Ginger and Spring Onion (SGD$18.80). This was my favorite dish of the night because the fish slices were springy with freshness, firm and tasty.

The French Beans with Minced Pork (SGD$14.80) brought about a delicious crunch in the mouth.

Black Pepper Beef (SGD$20.80) was juicy and succulent, every bite bursting with gentle fiery notes from the black pepper sauce.

Finally, Salted Fish, Tofu and Diced Chicken (SGD$14.80) was served in a claypot and this dish took a while to be served. The salted fish enhanced the flavours of this dish tremendously.

All in all, every one of us enjoyed the dining experience here at Canton Paradise pretty much.

Hair Cut by Toni & Guy Salon at East Coast [Sponsored]

170 East Coast Road, Singapore 428876
Tel: 6345 0208

So the hair has grown long since my last cut, but my hair has always grown fast, relieving me of worries of a bad hairdo. It was layered and fell into a nice "V" shape and has reached my waist.

Long hair was fun as I could do more hair-styles with it, and play around with more hair accessories. But alas, another long trip is coming up in November 2018, and I needed to shorten the tresses so that they would dry easier at night. I was honoured to receive a Hair Cut (worth SGD$129.00 onwards) by Toni & Guy Salon.

They were started 50 years ago in London by the Mascolo Brothers and have since expanded worldwide with 430 branches. The first outlet in Singapore was started in 1950 by David Mercer, one of their Educational Directors at that time. Yes, Toni & Guy Salon is both a prestigious hair salon as well as hair academy.

In Singapore, they have branches located at East Coast Road, Star Vista, Mandarin Gallery and Marina Bay Financial Centre. Each salon is tastefully decorated in an unpretentious, quasi-rustic manner focused on comfort and client experience.

After I was seated and served drinks, my hairstylist did a quick interview with me to understand my hair condition and concerns first, before suggesting the type of hairstyle to cut for me.

I underwent a Hairwash with their quality products next. They carry and use products by L'Oreal, Keratase, Redken and Label.M.

With some expert cutting, trimming, layering and blow-drying, I looked into the mirror 1.5 hours later to see a younger me, feeling light-headed (literally) with happiness at my new chin-length hair.

My friendly Hairstylist also offered lots of haircare tips during the session, and recommended some suitable products that I could use for my hair concerns.

All in all, I was very pleased with my new hairstyle and the impeccable service here at Toni & Guy Salon. Thank you for the hair makeover!

Lunch at Maru Dine and Bar @ Tanjong Pagar

12 Gopeng Street #01-05 Icon Village, Singapore 078877
Tel: 6327 1163

A contemporary Asian-fusion restaurant opened by a local celebrity and located in CBD area, Maru Dine and Bar serves a variety of creative cuisine blend of American, Japanese and Vietnamese. One could find light bites, rice bowls and pasta on the menu.

Interior is furnished beautifully in elegant black and white tones. Service was excellently provided by an efficient and polite crew.

We started with some Salad. Each main dish comes with free-flow salad so eat your hearts out. The variety comprised Mixed Mesclun Salad, Bamboo Shoot in Wasabi Sauce Salad, Fusilli Pasta Salad and Balsamic Mixed Beans Salad. Taste was good and the ingredients were fresh.

Truffle Chawanmushi (SGD$8.00), the most adorable I have seen so far - a set of 2 served in egg shells on cardboard egg trays. Texture was smooth and the earthly truffle notes were light and lingering, not overpowering.

The Crispy Soft Shell Crab Pasta (SGD$16.00) was exactly that - crispy and flakey, pleasant salted egg pasa adding more flavours. The pasta was served piping hot, springy in texture and made delicious by fine julienne gizarni chill.

Finally, Uni Ikura Angel Hair Pasta (SGD$26.00) - think cold strands of al dente capellini with caviar, truffle, sea urchin (uni) and shio kosho - the dish was decadent and scrumptious.

Overall dining experience at Maru Dine and Bar was good, from food to service to ambience. I an glad my friend suggested it.

Lunch at Atlas Bar @ Parkview Square, Bugis

600 North Bridge Road, Lobby Level, Parkview Square, Singapore 188778
Tel: 6396 4466

Atlas Bar takes over the grandiose art-decor beauty space where Divine Bar (review here) used to occupy. Basking in glamarous art depicting the Great Gatsby era of the 1920s, where art decor from Europe and America was revealed, this place is simply breathtaking.

When one enters, one knows not where to marvel at first - the tall tower of bottles and bottles of expensive spirits? The Venetian-styled ceilings adorned with art? Or the old-fashioned elegance of the decor of the bar's very interior?

Service is impeccable, just as how one would expect it to be; personable and attentive. Ambiance was a godsend and menus consist mainly fine European cuisine curated by Executive Chef Daniele Sperindio.

For a starter, the Bretzel, Foie Gras, Beer (SGD$24.00) - baked bread with crusty edge eaten with buttery foie Gras that melted in the mouth. It certainly tantalized one to look forward to more.

A good meaty mains would be the Choucroute, Sauerkraut, Pork Charcuterie and Potatoes Gratin (SGD$30.00) served on a gorgeous marble plate. Let hints of smokiness and tenderness of flesh please the palate ever more.

If you are a pasta lover, give the Lobster and Champagne Risotto (SGD$39.00) a try - lapping up the foamy vinegar bubble and relishing every bite of the grainy rice soaked in divine goodness of lobster oil-infused broth.

Moving on to desserts, the Signature Atlas Madeleines (SGD$14.00) served with jam and Chantilly cream might be a good bang for buck, though I personally would have chosen the Griottines Cherry and Bitter Chocolate Souffle.

Finally, drinks for the meal. I enjoyed my French 25 Cocktail (SGD$25.00) with Orange Gin, Champagne, Lavender, Lemon and Honey- a plethora of aromas all in one drink.

And there's the Old-Fashioned Cocktail (SGD$22.00) strong with rum.

Overall dining experience here at Atlas Singapore was beautiful and very pleasant, and I cannot wait to return to try their handmade High Tea set soon.
