Dinner at Nueva Cuban

Cuban cuisine? Another great, relaxing hangout I was being introduced to. Located at 70 Collyer Quay, Customs House, Singapore 049323, Neuva Cuban provides the perfect ambience for lovers, colleagues and friends to enjoy sumptuous dinner, friendly service and delicious drinks. The number to call for reservations is 6535 0538.

When one first enters the place, the friendly staff would greet you warmly. Thereafter, they would get you a seat - either in the dimly-lit, bustling indoors filled with hearty laughter, or outdoors where one could see great views around the Fullerton area. The place is decorated richly with Cuban ornaments and displays, transforming its diners across oceans without actually embarking on a journey.
On weekend evenings, there is a band that will perform. So far, I haven't had the fortune to experience the band performing as I have only visited on weekday evenings - and I have been there four times!

The first ever time I visited Nueva Cuban, I had the vegetarian pasta for lunch. Do not be fooled - there may not be any meat inside this dish, but there were plenty of ingredients (asparagus, mushrooms, etc) and the taste was just heavenly. I have never tasted a better vegetarian pasta dish. Sadly, that dish is no longer available on the menu.

Then I brought friends there for dinner and drinks.

The above are all starters / side dishes to eat as appetizers, or for light eaters to munch on over drinks. They call these "Tapitas". Their crispy wedges and tasty chicken wings make really great accompaniments for drinks.

I also suggest the Mejillones Al Horno - baked mussels topped with tomato concasse and mozarella cheese - baked to a tender softness and very flavorful. The Salmon De Esparragos - blanched asparagus rolled with smoked salmon - is to die for too, a tantalizing blend of crispiness of asparagus and saltish-chewy taste of the smoked salmon.

For dinner, some of the main courses we've tried are as above.

The first picture is of the Bistec A Lo Pabre - grilled Sirloin steak topped with eggs, Cuban wedges, served with banana rum garlic cream sauce. Exotic sounding, no? A very unique combination.

The second picture is of the Honey Mustard Chicken, a fairly common dish that is prepared to perfection - succulent and tender. It comes with vegetables and mashed potatoes.

Lastly, the Filete De Bacalu De Romesco - pan seared cod fish fillet with romesco sauce served with vegetables and mashed potato. I love cod, and love the freshness of this dish. The cod is grilled to perfection, and light on the tongue.

Now, we're talking drinks!

The Sangria on the left looks totally lovely, and tastes as lovely as it looks. But Nueva Cuban is famous for its Mojitos. They make really authentic and tasty mojitos, in different flavors as well. It is the ideal thirst-quencher , whether consumed on its own, or to complement piping hot food.

Including drinks, I usually spend around SGD$50 per visit, which is pretty reasonable.

Therefore, if you are looking for a different dining experience and trying an exotic cuisine, pop down to Nueva Cuban now.
