Some old favourites are worth revisiting time and again, for me, Lai Lai Taiwan Casual Dining (review here) is one such restaurant. I love their Lu Rou Fan (means "braised pork rice"), which I enjoy tremendously because of the myriad ingredients of good tender braised meat, braised egg, soft braised peanuts etc. I secretly prefer it to the Lu Rou Fan I had in Taiwan, save for them not using pearl rice.
Anyway, this was a revisit to try other items, though it was very tempting for me to order my signature favourite again.
Instead of Lu Rou Fan, I ordered Lu Rou Mian aka Braised Pork Meat Noodles (SGD$9.90) this time round. The ingredients were the same actually - tender braised mat, braised egg, and pickled vegetables. The differences were meat balls and usage of a white handmade flat noodle which was very springy and delicious. I loved this immensely, and was glad I ordered this dish to try too.
The Stew Beef Egg Rice (SGD$9.90) was pretty good too, after all, Lai Lai Taiwan Casual Dining proclaims their beef items to be their specialty, recipes from a Taiwan hotel famous for beef noodles. Beef was tender and moistened, and flavour was good.
We added a Cong Jua Bing (SGD$6.50) aka Onion Biscuit, comprising onion and egg in a soft flour shell with crispy edges. One could choose to add sesame or pork floss to it.
Overall, we enjoyed our dining experience here very much once again. Though it saddens me that this is the only outlet left in Singapore (used to have 2 more, in Jurong Point and Liang Seah Street too), I hope it continues to be around so I get to enjoy good Taiwanese-style fare in the comfort of my own country.
