The sea of smiles,
Mouths snapping shut, and wide open.
Questions become voices,
Indiscernible as ears strain to listen.
Moving lips emit silence,
Smiles bear frowns or sneers;
Smiles that never toucb the eyes,
All their faces become a blur.
All their lips ask the same questions,
Out of concern? Or menace?
What kind of answers to derive,
The truth or the lies?
What kind of answers to expect,
The blessing or the curse?
Who brings their true hearts,
Who empties out their souls?
The sea of smiles,
Gentle hands on the shoulders,
Colder than the touch of death,
Well-wishers giving naught but shivers.
