Shinkansen brings healthy Japanese protein meals to you. Owned by the same young boss of Standing Sushi Bar, there are currently 3 outlets for Shinkansen, at namely 100AM, Raffles Place and United Square (the latter is more of a takeout outlet).
Their motto being "Eat Strong, Eat Healthy, Eat Zen" - joining the current trend of healthy eating, bringing to you choices of either their artfully crafted signature bowls or you can choose to create your own.
To create your own, the "Transit" size is priced at SGD$13.90 whereas the "Station" size costs SGD$16.90 - the difference between them is one additional protein item.
*Katherine and I decided to go for the latter, so we could have all our favorite things into one bowl. We got to pick the base, the protein and the sauce. Then we made payment at the counter, took a seat and waited for the friendly staff to bring our salads to us.
*Katherine had the healthy base (comprising buckwheat soba, romaine and butterhead lettuce, spinach), brocooli, edamame & seaweed, as well as momotaro tomato and sauce of truffle balsamic vinegar. The colours were lush and fresh, and it tasted good according to her.
I had the light base (comprising romaine and butterhead lettuce, spinach and tomato), salmon sashimi, onsen egg, sliced almond & cashew, parmasan with wafu plum dressing. It was utterly delicious, especially after I poked the egg and allowed it to flow over my salad. The ingredients were crisp and fresh, making for a tasty, healthy and satisfying meal.
It was my second time having Shinkansen - I had one of their Salmon Sashimi Caesar (SGD$10.90) before - utterly delicious as well, but has been taken off the menus now.
