After dinner, *V and I decided to head for drinks at Chijmes. I am glad that even the basement level is restored and in business now, boosting various bars and restaurants. After surveying several potential chillout places, we decided to head to Berlin Bar because of its decor and the very hospitable service.
The spacious courtyard area was converted into a colourful array of comfortable-looking seats, of various styles and textures. We checked out the interior and the exterior of Berlin Bar, and decided to chill outdoors in the chilly breezes of the night.
At around 9.30pm - 10.00pm, the live band would start playing at Berlin Bar, so sitting inside would enable us to listen to some good music while unwinding over some interesting drinks. The European pub has a very beautiful interior set off by its dim lightings and muted hues.
After browsing the menus, *V decided on The Godfather (SGD$20.00), a rather potent and citrusy cocktail comprising of Maker's Mak, Amaretto, Lemon Juice, Egg White, Simple Syrup and Orange Bitters.
We were expecting some unique taste or effects with the addition of the egg white, but there was none - probably just smoothening out the drink further?
I chose one of their signature cocktails, also because of the ingredients - A Day @ Berlin (SGD$20.00), consisting of Aperol, Absolut Mandarin, Passion Fruit Syrup, Grapefruit Juice, Grapefruit Bitters and Rosemary. It was utterly tasty, a blend of sweetness with just the slightest hint of bitterness, bringing out the aromatic of grapefruit amongst the tarty orange fragrance.
It reminds me of my favorite specially-concocted cocktail at the now-defunct Nektar Bar (review here) - a cocktail by the Mixologist, with similar ingredients.
The food menu of Berlin Bar looks tempting as well, prompting us to decide that we would come back another time for food and drinks.
