I left customer's place late and was famished, since it was 3.00pm and I haven't had lunch. So, on a whim I popped by into the first restaurant that caught my eye, and was not crowded. So that was how I ended up at Menichi Japanese Ramen Restaurant.
Furnished in a very traditional-looking style, with thatched roofs and red lanterns hanging from them, the casual restaurant looked fashionably good. Since it seemed they specialise in ramen and boosted of good soup base, I decided to give it a shot.
I had a serving of Salmon Sashimi (SGD$9.50) to start off, since I had sashimi cravings (as usual). As expected, it wasn't the extremely fresh and springy type. It was limp in texture, hence I just doused it with loads of wasabi paste and enjoyed the sweet flavor of the raw fish.
Then the Paitan Ramen in Tonkotsu Soup (SGD$13.50) was served - with two slices of black pork, seaweed, half a braised egg and bamboo shoots. The soup base was thick and rich in flavor, albeit greasy. The black pork was luscious (mercifully) and the noodles were okay. I had no complaints nor compliments for this dish - it was rather mediocre, despite the fact that I was ravenous.
