Chilling Out at Tanuki Raw (again)
After the first visit at Tanuki Raw, I actually returned back twice, tonight being one of them. It is located at 181 Orchard Road #02-03 Orchard Central, Singapore 238896 and the number to dial is 6636 5949. Tonight I sat outside- on the lovely terrace where I get the view of Orchard Road itself, at my very feet.
This is a Japanese concept bar with very relaxing ambience. The setting is very fetching, especially appealing to the after-work crowd to unwind at while enjoying some good food and drinks. The live band is not really fabulous though.
We started with our Happy Hour entitlement of SGD$2.00 each oyster with every glass of alcoholic drink ordered. *Germaine and I each had a dozen of it, but still, we didnt feel aprodiasic. Thee oysters were fresh though, and we had fun squeezing lemon wedges, Tabasco sauce or the special spicy sauce served with the oysters, into the raw oysters for great taste!
We also had the Salmon Sashimi for Happy Hour promotion - only thing here was that the price of their salmon sashimi has risen from SGD$5.00 a plate to SGD$7.00 a plate now. I thought the price hike was a rather drastic jump. Nonetheless we had three servings of these - wouldn't say that the fish is too fresh or bouncy in texture, but it just satiated my all-time craving for salmon sashimi.
We also shared some Tori Karaage (fried chicken, SGD$10.00) - quite crispy on the outside, and the flesh within was tender, a common trait of chicken thigh meat. I thought the bite-sized chicken was good, especially as finger foods or side dishes.
Then we had the Chicken of the Sea sushi - basically it was sushi roll with an interesting name, comprising of salmon, seaweed rolled up, and sprinkles of poek floss atop the sushi. The combination made for a rather tasty sushi dish, delighting diners with the tiny explosion of flavors.
Bee's Knees - a drink that contains gin, lemon and honey - a very refreshing drink with very simple recipe. The honey used herein has a sapid taste on top of its saccharine quality.
Mojito - containing rum, lime juice, sugar, soda and mist - a favored drink of Ernest Hemingway's - another refreshing sweetie and my favored drink of late as well. I still think the ones in Mexican or Cuban restaurants / bars serve better Mojitos overall.
Last but not least, the Lychee Martini, something I'd tried before here. The taste was not too strong on alcohol; mercifully, and they were generous with the lychees in the glass. During their Daily Happy Hour promotion, the Martinis go for SGD$10.00 a glass, whereas the usual price is SGD$15.00 a glass.
Four of us spent a total of SGD$242.00 on drinks and light snacks herein.
