8 Reasons to Enjoy a Good Staycation
Having been attuned to the idea of a hotel stay vacation since many years ago (when it seemed odd to check into a hotel using NRIC instead of passport), I am glad that the trend has flourished in recent years. Except for one terrible experience here, the rest of the staycations have always been filled with enjoyment and even therapeutic.
I do love vacations, but I look forward as much too, to staycations in good old Singapore itself. I mean, why not? Let me share why staycation can be fun.
#1 - Staycation is a vacation in lieu of real vacation when you cannot get away for a few days
Yes, if you and your partner are too busy to get away for a short trip overseas, or unable to get away due to whatever reasons (no one to take care of the kid or elderly grandparent at home? never-ending work? Etc), having a staycation allows you to pamper yourself and feel like a tourist in the hotel, enjoying the full suite of room service and housekeepers being at your beck and call to ensure you have a fulfilling stay. You do nothing but check in, eat, sleep, and simply relax.
#2 - Staycation is a form of therapy in lieu of shopping, bingeing, drinking etc
Yes, find a hotel that looks good and offers a magnificent or soothing view, so that you can spend some time sorting out your thoughts and be soothed by the beauty of nature / the sea / the pool. Sometimes we are able to think better away from the familiarity of home, and at the same time, maybe let inspiration flow easier for those in creative industries.
#3 - Staycation allows for bonding / spending private time together
Yes, between partners, or even families, having a staycation together brings about bondage and allows for some alone time. Whether you choose to just lay around and enjoy the room's / suite's facilities or explore the hotel's vicinity, there is no work, clients, or other outsiders to disturb or pry you from enjoying some quality time together.
#4 - Staycation brings one closer to our overseas friends / relatives
How I actually began staycations was because of my foreign friends or relatives. Whenever they came to Singapore and are unable to stay at my place, I would book rooms for them. Somehow I could often end up staying with them in their rooms (I am talking about groups or girls here) and so we would stay up chatting the entire night, drinking and then the next day, head out together. Not only did this allowed me ease as their host / guide around town, we also got closer through these tiny pajamas parties.
#5 - Staycation makes festive season and special occasions more special
For your partner's birthday or parents' anniversary, staycations can be a treat to pamper them, and give them something to look forward to. It makes the special occasion even more special, marking the special day a memorable one. Alternatively, staycation also allow for better aerial views of F1 events and National Day fireworks etc, so that one could enjoy a home-vacation yet get up close and personal with unique events.
#6 - Staycation is an all-night long party
Besides getting rooms to spend quality time and feel touristy with family and partner, sometimes my friends and I would book rooms together for an all-night soiree too. Why not? We would buy loads of different drinks, chill in the comfort of our own room, drink till we pass out and not having to worry about passing out in the clubs or who was going to send who home.
#7 - Staycation is a cheaper alternative to vacation
For those who are saving up for their house, car, studies etc and have gotten sick of nearby vacation spots such as Bintan, Batam, Malaysia etc, staycation is always an ideal alternative to travelling abroad. You can spend anything from $300 - $10,000 a night for a suite / hotel of your choice, but it may still beat that vacation you have been itching to go , yet abstain due to financial constraints. Why not? There are plenty of facilities you can enjoy during the stay too - the hotel's famous restaurant, the hotel's soothing spas and well-known infinity pool to keep you plenty busy during the short stay at hotel of choice.
#8 - Staycation is the perfect hideaway
Besides having fun, bonding and making use of the hotel's excellent amenities, staycation also provides an avenue for those who need time away from their troubles, or to hide out for a few days due to whatever reason, i.e. being harassed, fights with spouse, etc. If you are unable to get away from the country due to work, family or other reasons, yet need a sanctuary to be holed up in, then staycation is the perfect solution that lets you be concealed yet you still can go about your daily routine without compromising anything at all.
That said, stop looking at staycation as a waste of money or "meaningless pursuit". Give this therapeutic and intimate alternative a try - you might just fall in love with it over time.
