The lovely, elegantly-furnished Italian restaurant offers indoor dining or alfresco concept, both settings decorated prettily to accommodate diners here to enjoy the ambience over a slow, un-rushed meal. Think, crisp white tablecloths, candlelights on tables and soft lightings.
We chose indoor seating, and pounced on the menu eagerly upon arrival. The polite and efficient wait staff were constantly fussing around the tables offering drinks, bread, clearing used plates etc, functioning very pleasantly without being overly intrusive.
Ravished as we were, and eager to try the food raved about in reviews, we ordered pretty fast upon arrival.
They served us bread starters first - soft grained bread and tomato bread. I love the softness of the bread; mind you, even without dipping the olive oil, the bread were good enough to eat on their own, because of the subtle sweetness and wonderfully soft texture.
Our shared appetiser of Pan Seared Foie Gras arrived shortly. The foie gras is very tender, as we expected it should be. We loved the jelly-like texture of the dish itself, and the gently-exotic taste. It was seared beautifully to a deep golden brown which was a points-adder as well.
My Duck Risotto arrived next. Being a risotto lover because I love arborio rice (the longish rice used to cook risottos), I absolutely enjoyed this dish. The gravy was creamy and flowed very smoothly with the rice. The duck meat was tender and absolutely tasty. The entire combination was just a treat for my tastebuds.
Charliez's* Portobello Mushroom with Artichoke and Cheese is another savoury heaven on its own. Saltish, yes, but paired with the fragrance of the mushroom, and bouncy-chewiness of the mushroom, this dish is unique and dances on the tongues.
We spent about SGD$40.00 per person on this meal, and had a good time catching up in the elegant, fancy ambience of this place. It is ideal for couples to visit, or friends to enjoy a good meal together.
