The Nuptial Series (iv) - Finding the right Photography Studio - Part I

So you have settled the ROM date and venue, and are ready for the photoshoot - the pre-wedding shoot and the actual-day photoshoots.  This is the next step - the photography.  I shall split this up into 2 parts - one on the research, and one on the actual pre-wedding photoshoot in Vancouver in September 2015.

I did a personal portraiture session with White Room Studio (link here) but won't be going back to them because of mediocre service and very insistent hard-selling tactics. So it was back to square one, talking to friends and own research.

I read some reviews on bridal forums, then proceeded to research on some of the photo studios I might be interested in working with.  We were only looking for actual-day photographer and videographer. This is my research table with rates (correct as at June 2015).

There are a few that I was really interested in, because of the mysterious, vintage and / or gothic photographs taken - featured either on their websites or magazines.  I shall share them with you, and who I signed up with in the end.

1.  Lighted Pixels

I loved the play of lights and darkness in their wedding gallery - either the pre-wed or actual day shots. I love the melancholy shots that I spotted, and the artistic approach to them. Above are a couple of shots from their gallery (visit their website here), there are more.

2.  Trouve Photography

They do a lot of overseas photoshoot. I believe it takes talent to be able to capture the beauty of nature and natural elements to make use of them for stunning backdrop, and Trouve has successfully been able to do it. Some of these photographs are dreamy; some of them are ethereal; some dark.  More photos can be found on their Facebook gallery here.

3.  Loov Production

Finally, Loov Production by Keanu Chang. They do breathtakingly beautiful shots with a powerful play of colours and themes, able to transform simplicity into exotic enchantment. I cannot help admiring their effects over and over again. The fanciful gowns might have a part to play too - but see how a simple CBD deck may be highlighted, as well as a simple flight of circular stairs recreated into a marvellous backdrop.   The images are sharp and picturesque - more photos on their gallery here.

Well, pity that the first two studios did not bother to revert, and I only discovered Loov after I've signed up with another studio.  However, I fixed an appointment with Loov to discuss the possibility of working something out, as a complement to my existing photos.

4.  Coffee & Tea Dreamcoffeez

We decided to go for Coffee & Tea Dreamworks in the end, because a few of our friends have engaged their services over the years with very satisfactory results, and they do take rather good photographs and videograph.

The service was professional and efficient; whenever they promised to revert by a certain timeline, they followed through without any trouble at all.  The rates are reasonable; we took up a package with them over Valentine's Day weekend - around SGD$5,000.00 inclusive of actual day photography, videography, montage as well as coffeetable book for our pre-wedding shots (the latter done by another photographer in Vancouver). Check out their gallery here.

This concludes Part 1 of the Photography Selection. Look out for Part 2 - Paramount Wedding Photography in Vancouver, Canada, September 2015.
