Review of Muvee Space [Event / Entertainment / Sponsored]

61 Ubi Road 1, #01-16 Ubi Oxley BizHub 1, Singapore 408727
Tel: 8181 688

Adding on to the entertainment industry is a new concept that is taking place, to be officially launched next month (January 2016). These days, with so many new movies coming to the screens of major theatres, the lifespan of each movie is pretty short. Within a month, the movie would've been taken off the big screens to make room for the next blockbuster or holiday flick.

At Muvee Space, you can catch movies you have missed, or older favorites, in the privacy of your own little theatre, with friends or loved ones. Yes, this is a popular concept overseas currently, and it is being adopted in Singapore so that you can spend quality time with friends and family without worrying about movie-goers who munch on food loudly, talk or use their phones in the cinemas.

The booking process is very simple, just complete the following steps:-

Go to the website to check out what are the movies available for screening and booking.  Note that these are not the latest movies because only Golden Village, Shaw, Cathay and Filmgarde theaters have the rights to the latest and newest movies.

Click on the "Book Online" tab to select the time slot we would like for our chillout / event session. There's different time slots available - 2 hour slot, 3 hour slot and full day slot to choose from.

Next, select the date, day and time of choice. When we click on it and see green, it means this time slot is available for booking. The gray areas mean that the slots have been blocked / booked, so we might have to change the day / time.

Following that, we fill in our particulars such as name, email address, telephone number and the movie title. If there are any special requests or queries, we are also able to key into the remarks box for them to process / address.

Finally, we need to confirm the booking. For now, payment is made in cash on the spot, when we arrive for our movies. I hope that when they launch officially, they are able to accept payment via credit card, eNets or Paypal at least.

Anyway, we arrived at the designated area for our experience of this concept.  Each room is furnished rather spaciously, think of it as your KTV room. You have it all to yourself. We reached at 7.00pm.  The seats are huge, cushy and comfortable; each room should be able to seat 4-5 persons. Small tables are positioned in front of the seats for our food or drinks. Like the exact seats in certain theaters, feel free to lean back and lie low while watching the movies in utter comfort.

We chose to catch "The Interview", a political comedy. It was a very humorous film with depth, and the sound system was very good - clear, distinctive and lucid; it made the movie come alive, and the surroundings seemed to belong to us.

Simple food items would be served - a mixed bowl of popcorn chicken, sweet potato puffs, mini dumplings, sausages and some balls. Potential was rather substantial and standard movie bites. Importantly, they were served hot. Drinks consisted of soft drinks in cans or Apple / Lychee Fizz.

We ordered extra food and drinks (nuts, popcorn, mini dumplings and popcorn chicken).since we were ravenous and we had taken the 3-hour slot. For the amount of food and drinks, we paid around SGD$33.00, standard movie snacks' fare. The menu will be revised and improvised upon during the official launch, with more variety of food items.

Service was attentive and effecient overall, and the settings were clean, well-maintained, cosy and makes for quality hanging out with family and friends. Price is reasonable as well. We cannot wait for the official launch so that we can start chilling out at Muvee Space with friends in our own enclosed space and catching flims that we can no longer catch at major theatres.   Thank you Muvee Space for the invite, and excellent experience!

[Media Invite] G2000 "The Work Chic" Event @ Ion Orchard

G2000 "The Work Chic" Event / Celebrating 25th anniversary
Venue: 2 Orchard Turn, Level #B4 Event Hall @ Ion Orchard
Date: 31 October 2015 (Saturday)
Time: 3.00pm to 5.00pm

I was honoured to be invited to the above event, held at Ion Orchard, right outside the G2000's store. Upon registration, we were affixed with a black "Style" sticker and handed a bottle of fresh cold-pressed orange juice.

Then we proceeded in to mingle with the rest of the guests and see what were on display. The GIF Photobooth manned by Toothprint was amazing. We were asked to strike a series of different poses, thereafter each received a polaroid printout photo. The video captured all our poses, and was emailed to us instanteously.

Next, this special machine where we stood in front of it and "get dressed" virtually. No, I wasn't holding or wearing that black-and-red outfit as shown in the photo; I was merely standing in front of it. Great fun and rather good use, only that the fit might be an issue.

An array of clothes were on display, so we had a sneak peek of the good stuff in the shop itself.

Then the fashion showcase hosted by Furqan Saini began, in which he talked about styling tips and current season's trends. Some members in the audience were asked to go upstage and styled with the various coats / jackets to enhance their outfits.

Social media influencers Maybelline Sim and James Awyong made a guest appearance to share about their styles as well; Maybelline on "colour blocking".

Contestants (3 couples) of the #G2StyleFiles contest co-organized by Style: and Style: MEN paraded the makeshift runway and then the winning couple was announced. The couple whose style I preferred the most won, of course....

So, it was time for some photo-taking with familiar faces and shopping at the G2000 store. This collection, consisting of chic workwear and some winter clothes, was rather awesome. Spotted clothes of different fabrics and styles from the conventional G2000 apparel.

Finally, we redeemd the generous goodie bag containing copies of Style  and Style Men magazines, invitation for free digital subscriptions of the magazines, makeover lessons by Makeup Store, red velvet cupcakes, Aveda hair treatment from Jeric, G2000 voucher and a bottle of Magners' Irish Cider.

Thank you G2000 for the lovely event, and thank you Mediacorp for the invite!

Do Not Turn Your Social Media Accounts Into Your Babies' Accounts

When I opened the internet browser this morning, one of the auto-tabs led me to my Facebook page. Casually browsing the feeds over a slow breakfast of croissant and cuppaccino, I felt the strong impulse to hit the “Unfollow” or “Unfriend” button once more, whenever I came across some of the Benjamin-Button styled postings again – i.e. adults in their mid-30s writing things such as “Today I learned to say the word, ‘hello’!” accompanied by baby photos.

Yes, I know you get me and probably understand my frustration too – because you’ve probably came across enough posts as such yourself.  It is not the first time I have heard or read about people complaining about these types of posts, therefore here’s one more from me – except I am going to dissect, analyse and explain to the dear mothers out there WHY it is totally unacceptable to allow your social media accounts to morph into your darling babies’ social media accounts.

I may ruffle some feathers, but you’ve already ruffled those of the friends / followers in your list – so I reckon we’re even on that count.

Firstly, to state the obvious, when we add / approve / follow YOU as a friend, dear mommies, we were, and still are, interested in what goes on in your life, your thoughts and your intellectual musings. We are interested to know what you enjoy doing, how you are getting on, and probably what you wore or cooked for the day, as an inspiration. But somehow, after you became a mother, all your posts are about nothing but your kiddos, and worse – you post in their thoughts, their “voices”, mimicking their baby-talk on YOUR social media postings.

Sometimes it is rather frightening – making me wonder if these friends of mine suddenly had a Benjamin-Button moment, or are suffering from very pre-mature dementia symptoms to talk like that.

You wonder why we are so irritated. You may argue that, since we are interested in your life’s updates, then we should understand that now your lives totally evolve around your kids, hence the updates are on them. Which brings me to the second point here, dear mommies.

There is a distinctive difference – a rather wide dichotomy, in fact – between (i) posting photos of you and your kids together, with captions such as “Another great moment spent with my baby”, and (ii) letting your baby dominate every social feed through solely posting their photographs captioned with “I drooled on my bib”.   Can you see the BIG difference here?

You probably forgot that the Facebook, Twitter, Instagram etc accounts were created in your name – so when you post stuff such as “I drooled on my bib” – it  is in YOUR name. Hence, the social media account no longer offers YOUR activities, YOUR thoughts and YOUR intellectual musings.

Is it fair to subject all your friends and followers to childlike musings of your kids on YOUR accounts now?

Well, yes, surely you may also suggest that we could simply hit the “Unfollow” or “Unfriend” tabs, so that we need not be subject to your babyish updates ever again, and all is cool. We could, and we have probably done so. But then you have to remember that by doing so, it means we are no longer interested or privy to all of your updates on social media accounts. If one fine day, you happen to post that your darling dog or kiddo is missing, or if you or hubby are hospitalized, or if there is a death in the family – and no one bothers to show any concern, please do not blame us. Similarly, if you happen to share about a work promotion, a holiday trip or another happy occasion, and no one bothers to congratulate you, please do not feel disappointed as well. You have to understand that it is not that we do not care – it only means that we have stopped following your babyish posts, giving up on the hopes that your social media accounts might revert to updates about YOU, and hence won’t be privy to all further updates.

I hope this wakes you up somewhat from your selfish misuse of YOUR social media accounts. If you give me the key to your house, I believe you expect to see just me inside your house, and not someone else whom I choose to share the key with. Similarly, if we add you onto our social media feeds, it is YOU and YOUR thoughts and YOUR actions that we are keenly piqued by, not someone else who has suddenly hijacked your social media accounts. You cannot force your friends or followers to swallow a chocolate-flavoured yogurt bar down our throats when we bought the strawberry-flavoured one, even if you think that the chocolate-flavoured ones are cuter, nicer, and newer, hence requires more “promotional marketing”.

If you want to continue uploading lots and lots of your baby photos or videos onto your social media accounts, storied by captions a la baby-talks or baby-thoughts, please kindly create a separate account in the kiddo’s name and invite your contacts to add / follow this account. It gives us a choice, that if we choose to follow the news on this account, we would be prepared to daily doses of your babies' updates and the number of times they pooed. Those who are not fans of baby talks, can also have the option of not following the other account, but continue to be kept up-to-date on happenings in your life.

Everyone is happier this way, and you can also ensure that those who choose to follow the baby accounts, are people who are genuinely concerned and interested about your kids’ lives. When your kids are of age, they can also take over these accounts and do their own updates as well.

Mothers, if you think this makes sense, well, it doesn’t take long to set up another social media account for your kids. Do it now, keep your friends and followers intact and interested!
