Poem: Stolen Beauty

She formed dreams and spiked fantasies
The perfect picture of elegance.
Her beauty was stolen from angels,
And the demons wanted to steal it.

Her blood was warm, the blade cold,
She lost the battle
With demons in her head,
Dark burdens within spotless facade.

Her long lashes were wet, her lips dry,
Lips that would never kiss again.
She lost the battle
And her soul escaped her lifeless shield.

Goodbye, beautiful one,
And her painful silent screams.
Were there ever clues in those eyes,
Eyes that melted hearts too cold?

Poem: Scared of Losing You

I'm scared of losing you,
Please get well and recover,
I'm scared of losing you,
Like how my dad left forever.

A close kin, like immediate family,
You are very very dear to me,
Taking care of us like your own,
Someone we'd always look up to.

I'm scared of losing you,
Though I know you'd grow old too;
I'm scared of losing you,
Please shake the sick demons off.

Poem: Saying Goodbye

Saying goodbye-

Is the gentlest form of setting free,
The extreme pain of false hopes;

A most selfish way of preserving,
The most beautiful part of a life,

Before it rears its head in the end ;
And takes away all the imagination;

It is the antidote to all secrets kept,
Merry we meet and merry we part.

Poem: Feeling the Daze

Quiet times,
 My thoughts are with you,
As I watched you leave today,
Sadly I could feel you,
Dazed, as if woken from deep slumber
As you try to make sense of the chanting.

Quite real,
The sensation; and I wish you well now.
Though I never knew you enough,
It was still a farewell -
Leaving behind those who love you,
It reminds me of my own father.

[Poem] Tribute to George Michael

George, 'tis your Last Christmas,
Have you found angels and peace?
Your sweet December song,
A melody that didn't save you
Are you still praying for time,
Or setting your soul free?

I never really knew you,
Until Careless Whisper stole my heart;
It was all I danced to,
With Faith, and Fast Love
Taking the lead at times;
These were the days of my life.

Your voice was soothing,
Healing the pain felt inside;
Your heart was generous,
Like Jesus to a child.
We thought we knew you,
Through your songs; we always did.

You know, my mother had a brother -
He was a dear, a Father Figure,
Big-hearted like you, died in October.
It makes me think 2016 is the year
The angels are all called home;
To a different corner, away from us.

You were amazing,
Your songs touched chords so deep;
Through our long and winding roads,
You have been loved (surely);
And we'd never know where or when,
We might meet again, at the edge of heaven.

[Poem] Surreal Departure

Glued to my chest now,
Holding the pieces of my heart
Intact, is a thick layer of pain,
Piercing through the core.

Acute agony and I are now
Inseparable, where I go it shadows;
And the mind is ruptured,
With thoughts and memories of you.

Fresh waves, washing over me,
Pain becomes my anaesthetics numbing me.
It even hurts when I laugh,
Your departure is most surreal.

[Poem] Toeing the Lines

I am alone with my thoughts,
The skies are trying to paint my mood;
I am defenseless,
As the tide of sad news wash over.

I want to hide away,
Run back to the days
When you were healthy and tall,
When we looked up to see you smile.

I want to run away,
Hide amongst the safe memories,
Where no one bade goodbye,
And pain did not have a place.

We are toeing the lines now,
Between this world and the other,
Holding onto your form,
But will your soul stay rooted?

[Poem] Tribute to a Relation

Dust to dust, ashes to ashes,
Memories appear like flashes;
As life merges with nature,
And continue in the Afterlife.

We had prayed and prayed,
Raged and teared and tried
To keep you close to us,
See your smiles and hear your tales.

You fought hard in the beginning,
Before your flesh stopping trying;
Your missions are completed
So you return to be reassigned.

Dust to dust, ashes to ashes,
May the seas bring you to places;
In life, you were a godsend,
In death now a legacy is created.

[Poem] Buying Reality

What if there was a way
To make you stay?
A way to buy
My desired reality?

What if there were means,
Of holding on to remains;
A massacre of the pains,
Shot through our fine veins.

What would it cost me,
To have you back in time;
To keep you in my life,
Not sent away, somewhere...

[Poem] Buried Pieces

I was a piece of your life,
Which later became a memory;
Therefore when you passed away,
You took that part of me,
To be buried with you,
Deep in the cold grounds.
It is how I stay connected,
And at times sense you now.
The missing part of me,
Shall forever watch over your soul.

[Poem] Shaking Loose the Sands

Is there a way, any way at all,
I could hold on,
So they would not leave,
For unknown realms so dark to us?

Just so we would feel no pain,
No sense of loss in our empty hearts.

Is there a way, any way at all,
I could ask them,
If leaving was their choice,
Shaking loose the sands of this lifetime.

Just so we could come to terms,
And accept the reality in gentler terms?

[Poem] Requiem for the Souls

Over the rim of her wine glass,
Soft coral red lips were parted,
Singing songs only angels could,
Singing a requiem so melodious.

She sang about their departures,
To exploring lands unbeknownst to men.
She sang about their deeds,
About lives lived out as dreams.

She sang about the souls lost,
Buried in depths of our minds;
And sang about the flesh gone,
Back to the womb of Mother Earth.

[Poem] Dead Seamen

The shores were deserted
In anticipation of a storm,
Brewing in lands not too faraway
Boats were rocking their phantom rowers.

The seagulls' dulled cries
Trembled the gentle rippling of the waves
The lighthouse blinked unceremoniously
And dead seamen came out to play.

Poem: Of Demise and Drinks

So much news of demise and passings
Lately, as the years
Go by, and bodies grow old,
Reliving the souls from their shells,
Shrouding the families in cold,
Sad states of mind. . .

It will be us one day, lying in the earth,
Dreaming of another world,
Our flesh too weak to support us
Torn and frayed like our coats.
But for now, I need a drink,
A subtle touch of numbness.

Poem: Deader than Them

As day gently closes up
To make way for night to set in,
And the rain teaches willows to unweep,
Streets are silenced as ashes fill the air.

It's that month of the year,
When spirits and us, traverse the same roads;
As the live souls come to visit, we realize
We are, at times, deader than them.

Poem: Buried Chapters

There are some journeys,
You'd never re-read in the journals,
Hidden under keys and locks,
Till the pages turn yellow and fade,
Like the secrets that shall never be decoded,
Leaving the minds un-decided.

There are some memories,
Which the mind makes better keepers ;
Like the sound of tonight's laughter,
The electrifying jolt in those eyes,
The warmth surging through my very veins,
And the stark coldness thereafter.

There are some chapters,
Meant for the mind's hearth,
To be buried under the Moon by night,
And burned by the Sun by day-
The covers that look so innocent,
Only to reopen like my Pandora's Box...

Poem: In Loving Memory of 19/11

Today is the day that you,
Taught me the real meaning of goodbye.

Not "Adieu", not the kind of farewell,
In which I would see you again,
If I care to search hard enough,
In another corner of the Earth.

Today is the day that you,
Departed silently and swiftly,
Stealing away from the reality,
Before we could even right the wrongs.

I have missed you, and always will,
I want to be daddy's girl again,
If chance allows.

Today is the day you showed me,
The real agony of the meaning of goodbye

Peace for France

The acts of vile men,
Have shaken the world once more,
And nowhere is safe.

The lives that were lost,
And the ones fighting for theirs,
Will be in our prayers.

May Paris be blessed,
And restored to its beauty;
The killers, perished.

I woke up this morning to hear about the terrorists' attack on Paris as a Friday 13th act.  How vile is this, to sacrifice hundreds of lives in a beautiful city. My heartfelt prayers go out to those who have departed in the heinous act, to those who are currently fightly bravely for their lives in the hospitals, and to the families / kin who have lost their loved ones in this tragic event.

This would be a dark and chaotic moment in France currently, to be violated by the acts of others this way - unexpected, cruel, and unprecedented. Please stay strong, Paris.  Justice will prevail and the destroyers shall have their just deserts.

Still, a sad turn of events. It has shown us that nowhere is safe anymore, and humanity has but a faint grasp on reality right now.

The Song of the Senses

The swirls of colours, the taste of valour,
The pale pallor of your face, blood red lips;
The feel of stardust upon my cold skin,
The lash of the wind like a wakeup call -
The opening of hazel eyes to the reality,
The hazey tantamount of fogged fantasies.

The deafening silence in the basement,
The shadows dancing beneath the streetlamps,
The kaleidescope of nothingness,
The chase for romance in the woods,
The pursuit of the storm's directions,
The enchantment that sought to haunt.

The touch was soft, cold, like falling snow,
The moon was held by a thin line in the sky-
The dream was for it to fall unto my bosom;
The awakening was a nasty hangover,
The pain was sharper than witches' claws;
The gnashes were darker than streams of blood.

The line separating the horizon was gone -
The sun plunged right into the swaying waves;
The soft clinks of glasses being toasted,
The shattered smash of mirrors in the distance,
The murmurings of the leaves in the winds,
The singsong howl of wolves deep into the night.

The smile that broke into the gloom,
The torches of dawn coming to the rescue;
The gentle tears of heavens pelting the soul,
The first kiss that got past the heartbeat's skip,
The soft landing of the dream upon the land,
The stripping of the sensations so surreal....

Leaving no trails once they pass, like mortals,
Engaging the senses at their whim and fancy.

Farewell, Founding Father of the Little Red Dot

Singapore has formed a human chain,
Looped around where you now lay far too still,
Braving the weather rain or shine, or giving up sleep,
Muttering not a word of complaint,
As we walk towards you, baby steps towards you,
With only our respect, time and tears to spare.

Can you see the unity of your people in this picture,
The people that you took great care of -
Men and women with white hair and toothy grins,
Young and old regardless of race -
Joined by people of the globe, in awe,
Edging towards your force - so strong even in death.

You portray a stern and hard facade to the public -
Even ruthless, heartless, even Machiavellian,
Yet your people digress, painting the softer side
Of you, as a great leader, patient and friend;
Yet the love you have shown for your family
And wife, greatly moves us in silence.

A mystery - that is what you are -
Firm in certain values, yet keeping an open mind;
Like the father whose care runs deeper than words,
Like the builder who explored unchartered territories-
Opening up possibilities for a muddy piece of land,
Now cemented firmly in prosperity's paths.

And your name, your name is Light and Glory,
High standards to live up to - but you attained,
By leading a country so poor and polluted (corrupt)
To where peace, prosperity and potential await;
The men who fought alongside with you -
Were never un-mentioned, though some may have left.

Possesive, were you, guarding the nation protectively-
As if it were your very own - but it indeed is yours,
This tiny red dot we have come to call our own,
Built and crafted by your lifetime of brilliance,
Sweat, efforts, energies and concerns,
Even in sickness your thoughts were never on yourself.

Haters may hate your guts, liars may deny you credit,
Hardening your heart to rid all that post threats;
The dirt and pain of politics are lined in gray, raining
Upon you but you shouldered all of them,
With only one goal in mind - bringing Singapore up,
Developing and grooming it was all that mattered.

Now as you go gently into the good night, Sir,
Thank you for your dedication and diligence;
Though we may never again see your familiar face,
In live recordings of parliament meets or NDP,
You have left your marks in all that we dwell upon,
The inspirations, the legacy, that comfort you planted.

Singaporeans - and many foreigners, for that matter, have not uttered a word of complaint as the queue continues to form day after day, hour after hour, and inspite of the weather conditions.  This is contrary to the accusations that we are a complaining lot.

For that matter, there are / were many volunteers who have generously offered their monetary resources, time and energies to give out refreshments, meals, drinks, umbrellas etc to those who took pains to stay in the hours of queue - which contravenes the accusations of us being "selfish".

These are your people, Sir LKY - the ones you have watched over in life. Whether you may choose to continue watching over us in spirit now, we know not - and we are saddened by the loss of you - but rest in peace, rest well in the arms of your beloved wife Mrs Lee, if you will.

Deepest condolences to the family of Sir Lee as well - take good care of yourself so you may be able to take good care of your (father's) people....
