Dinner at Sports Bar @ Shanghai Dolly

3B River Valley Road, Clarke Quay Level 2, Singapore 179021
Tel: 6336 7676

Having been to Shanghai Dolly several times over the years for clubbing and celebrations / events before, I never knew that Level 2 comprises of a piano lounge with live singer, a restaurant and sports bar. Tonight, I discovered the Sports Bar through friends' recommendations, as we came for dinner and drinks.

The service crew here is mainly male, friendly and efficient (please allow a little patience, for they also need to take care of the restaurant's side). The menu in the Sports Bar consisted mainly of local / Asian cuisine, of which Bak Kut Teh, Claypot Rice etc form part of. There's 50% off all food items between 4.00pm to 9.00pm as part of Happy Hour, so it makes the SGD$10.00 onwards dishes really, really affordable.

We started with some Beer and my Mojito (SGD$12.00)  - there was no drinks menu but I was informed that have more than 100 types of cocktails.

Foodwise, we kicked off with a Claypot Beancurd with beans, shitake mushroom, carrot etc dish, a balanced and nutritious pot with the most scrumptious gravy.

Then it was XO Seafood Bee Hoon, with robust, tasty gravy. The Bee Hoon (vermicelli) was fried before draping in the pool of delicious broth, and stuck together in a crispy piece of smokey delicacy.

Next, Ma La (numb-spicy, literally) Pot of goodness, such as chicken, lotus root slices, vegetables etc. I loved how the chicken was tender, vegetables mildly crunchy, all infused strongly with the tasty pierce of peppercorn's spiciness.

Following that, Claypot Rice with Ginger Chicken. Rice and chicken were tossed in a flavorful, sweet-savoury sauce; loved the succulent chicken which was also redolent with ginger's soft spicy notes - enough to whet the appetite, but not pierce the tongue.

Finally, Pork Knuckle (half portion), utterly crackling. The skin was so crispy it literally melted in the mouth when bitten into, breaking into little crumbs.

Overall, enjoyed this place for good food and chilling out. Feel free to watch your favorite soccer games or play darts as well.
