Dessert at Yami Yogurt @ Raffles Place

One Raffles Place, #B1-34, Singapore 048616
Tel: 6535 9321

Yami Yogurt has been around since 1983, way before the fad for froyo kicked in, serving delicious and healthy soft frozen yogurt. Yami stands for "Yogurt Acidophilus Milk" by the way, a no-fuss, straightforward name that tells you what you are in for, and it sounds yummy too.

Needless to say, I have been a fan for years, enjoying the refreshing dessert that came in flavours such as natural / original, peach, etc, and I would always add the same toppings of cranberries and peaches.

Recently, I am happy to note that they are getting very innovative with different flavours each week - something to look forward to. Just like how there was Rose flavour next week, and this week is Wild Berry. Next week would be Taro (yam) etc.

Ordered a small Wildberry Yogurt with cranberries (SGD$4.90) to try, and was wowed by the soft, aromatic mixed berries flavour. Love the soft, smooth texture of the frozen yogurt and how it melts lusciously in my mouth - the perfect dessert for a hot day as such.

I guess from now on, it's going to be a weekly affair with Yami, tasting out their new and interesting flavours each week!

They also have the very,  very awesome and value-for-money Split (SGD$5.90) where you get to choose 4 flavors into a palette and 4 different toppings! We were so excited about this. For flavors we had original, peach, taro and strawberry (the taro was so creamy and earth-romatic); for toppings we chose longans, chocolate crunch, cashew nuts and peach slices. This allowed us to have the best of 4 worlds, and try an assortment all in one single order. I really loved the thoughtful concept.

Honey and Milk Yogurt Dessert Bar

180 Kitchener Road #02-K14 City Square, Singapore 208539
Tel: 6834 3040

Being a yogurt lover, I have been dying to try Honey and Milk for a long while, but never found the time to do so. Opportunity presented itself today after an appointment at Owen Road, and I had some time to kill in between - so I popped over to Milk and Honey @ City Square Mall.

Nice to note that there's a cozy little cafe instead of just a buy-and-go stall. I could sit and do my work stuff while enjoying a cooling yogurt parfait in this hot weather!

Yes, Milk and Honey specialises in delicious artisan yogurt parfait made of unique flavours and topped with handcrafted decor such as tiny macarons and meringue.

Besides froyo, they also have beverages and jars of cookies for sale. Anyway I decided to try the Liliac Dream (SGD$6.80) first. A sweet, dreamy looking dessert delight made up of yogurt with lavender seeds at bottom, lavender sauce, lavender meringue, jello and blueberries.

The soft-served, natural yogurt was silky smooth and light on the palate, flavour enhanced dramatically by the aromatic lavender items used, especially the tiny lavender seeds at the bottom. I loved the soft fragrance of the 1macaron as well as the very crunchy mini meringue.  I am happy to give this darling yogurt parfait full scores for its lovely taste and burst of textured all within a cup of goodness.

Also visited Milk and Honey at Jem, Jurong East. This is more of a takeaway concept.

Here I tried the Chocolate Divine Yogurt Parfait (SGD$6.80) , made up of chocolate macarons, brownies, Stracciatella sauce, Valrhona noir pearls and chocolate ganache.

It was really delicious at first few bites, thoroughly enjoying the rich chocolate sweetness against lightly sour yogurt flavour; and the Valrhona pearls added crunch. However it got a little cloying for me halfway through. Nonetheless, it still made for a tantalising dessert.

If you are not interested in their standard parfaits, feel free to create and customise your own - they have a wide range of sauces and toppings as well.

Yogurt Review - Llaollao Frozen Yogurt

13 Stamford Road #B2-29 Capitol Building, Singapore 178905
Tel:   None supplied

The distinctive lime green signboard has been sparking long lines around Singapore lately, mainly in shopping malls (for now). Similarly, whenever we spot someone holding one of these signature long, lime green plastic spoons on the streets, we immediately know what they are eating, and realise that there is a LlaoLlao outlet in the nearby vicinity.

That said, Llaollao frozen yogurt hails from Spain, and is pronounced as "yow yow" - despite the fact that many people probably read it as "lao lao" given its spelling.  Being the yogurt fan that I am, I was never intrigued enough to join the queue for any kind of food, though. Hence, it took me so long to try my maiden Llaollao frozen yogurt, chosen rather timely at the newly-reopened Capitol Building with no queue.

The famous Llaollao frozen yogurt comes in 4 sizes, with prices starting from as low as SGD$2.50 for the small cup, sans toppings (without toppings). I settled for the Sanum (SGD$6.50), the tallest one that I see most people eating on the streets.

For the ingredients in a sanum cup, basically it's made up of natural yogurt. We get to choose two (2) types of "Crunches", three (3) kinds of fresh fruits, as well as one (1) topping of our desire.

For "Crunches", there are plenty to choose from - chocolate coated peanuts, dried crabnerries, Smarties, caramelized cookies etc.

For fresh fruits, there are strawberries, blueberries, pineapple, watermelon, kiwi, dragonfruits, grapes and rock melon cubes.

As for toppings, one may select from rum with raisins, mango sauce, white chocolate, black chocolate, wild strawberries sauce etc. Chocolate with froyo - can you imagine!

For my "Crunches", I went for black chocolate-coated peanuts and dried cranberries. Fruits-wise, I had watermelon, blueberries and strawberries. As for the topping, I dutifully selected black chocolate for it. I made payment and was actually excited to receive my Llaollao sanum cup.

Found a quiet spot near the fountain to devour this beautiful snow mountain. Well, the yogurt was not bad, soft and slightly sour in taste, well obliterated by the thick chocolate sauce anyway. While I enjoyed every mouthful of velvety, stark cold sweetness and crunches, I realised that its specialty lies in the fact that it is laden with lots of ingredients, period. Strip away all the toppings - it is no different from the other frozen yogurt.

Which reminds me - they also serve Yogurt Smoothies etc at Llaollao, for those who do not want to eat it as a dessert. I had this giant cup for lunch, and found it to be adequately filling.

See also reviews on Berrylite Yogurt (here) and Yoguru Yogurt (here) - will be posting good, old and reliable Yami Yogurt very soon.

Lunch at Smoothie King @ Marina Bay Financial Link Mall

8A Marina Boulevard, #B2-11, Marina Bay Link Mall, Singapore 018984
Tel: 6834 3542

So, Smoothie King started with its founder Steve Kuhnau who experimented and created nutritious, healthy remedies to counter his allergies and low blood sugar in the 1960s. Apparently, his concoction of blending real fruits, nutrients and proteins aided his health conditions, hence a health food store was set up in 1973. Today, there are over 650 Smoothie King franchise outlets around the globe, bringing to people healthy and nutritious meals.

What prompted me to try this was really because whenever I passed by Smoothie King at Marina Bay Link Mall, it was empty (a pity), but I needed some quiet spot for getting some work done, so here I was.

One has to order at the counter, selecting from an assortment of hot and grill wraps, fresh wraps, soft taco wraps or salads. There were also choices between spicy, honey mustard, BBQ flavors etc. The main eye-catcher though, was the calorie count listed next to every item.... very informative, and definitely a great influence over my choice of order.

Eventually I settled for a Spicy Chicken Breast Soft Taco Wrap (166 cal) - because I like taco shells and I enjoy spicy flavor. Coincidentally, it was the also lowest calories on the entire list :)    So, it was served on a small paper tray with soft taco shell, spicy chicken breast, tomato cubes. cheese slivers and shredded lettuce. The slab of chicken breast was juicy and tender; when eaten together with the fresh vegetables, the teeth and palate are treated to a delightful burst of flavors.

The only problem I had with this delicious wrap was the difficulty in eating it (can't hold the entire soft taco up because ingredients would seep through the openings, but somewhat hard to stab at using a plastic fork).

The Smoothies are divided into categories as well - refreshing, slim and lite, and nutritional meals - with detailed description next to each drink. There was also a list of enhancers that one could choose to add on, such as collagen, antioxidant, energy etc.

I selected the Very Berry Smoothie with a shot of Collagen tossed in (additional SGD$1.00). My Mix-and-Match set cost SGD$9.90. The smoothie was creamy and thick in texture, strongly aromatic with berries' sweetness, and of course tasted especially good with the knowledge that I was drinking something nutritious with collagen infused.

On another visit, I had the Fresh Spicy Chicken Breast Wrap (274 cal) and had the Acai Adventure Smoothie, comprising of the goodness of acai berries, blueberries etc.

The Wrap was very flavorful and spicy enough to tingle the tastebuds; the chicken was tender. The only drawback was the onion I'd forgotten to ask them to remove. The sweet and thick smoothie once again made me feel rejuvenated and healthy.

Overall, I enjoyed the overall dining experience at Smoothie King, and look forward to be back for more healthy, tasty items soon.

Yogurt at Yoguru

21 Choa Chu Kang North 6, #01-48 Yew Tee Point, Singapore 689578
Tel: 6634 0375

After my post about Berry Lite Yogurt (see post here), I decided to do another one, this time on Yoguru Yogurt because of their interesting flavors.  They have several branches as well so I shall just write about the one I visited.

They serve frozen yogurt in refreshing flavors with slgiht tartness. The yogurt comes in cone or cup. I ordered the Small serving with fresh blueberries toppings, and it cost me only SGD$4.70 each.

The first flavor we had was the Sjora Yogurt - tropical flavor, supposedly mango, peach and pineapple all in one. The soft-served yogurt was tasty - the citrusy and sweet flavors were beautifully balanced, making every bite a delight.

The next flavor we tried was the Salted Caramel Yogurt - a more "multed" flavor with a lighter flavor. There was a very slight hint of saltiness detected, and the caramel tones were not overwhelming (i.e. too sweet).

Bliss was a mixture of passionfruit and dragonfruit - a tropical delight, touches of zesty amongst sweetness, hitting straight to the soul beautifully. Toppings were blueberries and strawberries.

All in all, these healthy delicacies were worth every single cent, and I would love to have them again.

Dessert at Berrylite @ Parkway Parade

80 Parkway Parade Road #B1-83J, Parkway Parade, Singapore 499269

I have always been a fan of Yami Yogurt for their delicious frozen yogurt with fresh toppings, and had yet to meet a suitable competitor for it till *Charmaine brought me to Berrylite @ Parkway Parade after dinner one day.

The price is reasonable and there are many flavors of fat-free, frozen yogurt to choose from. The fresh toppings are very generous - even though I'd chosen the lychees and promengranite. I was skeptical as to how different their yogurt could taste, but I was hooked from first bite. The Blueberry Yogurt I ordered was ultra soft  and smooth in the mouth, like soft cool silk draping across the tongue, bringing with it a rich berry taste (like those blueberry chewy sweets we ate when young).

I was converted - I love Berrylite's yogurt. The only catch is that they have rather limited outlets.
