Tea Break at Daily Affairs Cafe & Bar @ Newton

1 Anthony Road #01-02 Cairnhill Community Club, Singapore 229944
Tel: 6262 4342

Imagine entering a community club and taking it's flight of steps down to a secret alcove - comfortable, friendly crew and stunning settings surrounded by lush greenery. Yes, that was the feeling Daily Affairs Cafe & Bar gave me when I discovered it.

Offerings include Western and Asian cuisine such as Salads with housemade vinaigrette dressings, Seafood dishes and local delight Laksa etc, as well as palatable pastries and a pretty good range of alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages. Besides chilling out at Daily Affairs, this garden-themed cafe is ideal for holding functions as well.

Their Afternoon Tea set is only SGD$8.50. We tried their Gula Melaka Cake, savouring the softness of the texture and muted sweetness bursting with fragrance of palm sugar.

The Hot Chocolate was rich and creamy but not overwhelming, the perfect steamy comfort for a rainy day like today.

My Cucumber Mint Tea came in a pyramid-shaped holder, served on a section of wooden log. The presentation was pretty and the Tea, refreshing.

My client raved about their Apple Pie and Lemon Tart; she's a regular who hangs out here weekly. I would love to come back to this hidden gem to try more of their stuff, enjoying the quiet ambience in the lazy afternoons.

Review on Food Hamper Delivery by Simply Hamper [Sponsored]

Brand: Simply Hamper Singapore Pte Ltd
Tel: 6443 3011

I woke up to a courtesy call informing me that I had a hamper delivery right outside my door. So I opened the door, and was surprised to be greeted by a gorgeous food hamper by Simply Hamper. The entire packaging was in cream and gold notes, looking classy. The packets and boxes making up the contents of the hamper looked so delectable, I was tempted to rip the wrapping apart.

However, something caught my eye! My colored photo was grinning right back at me from the wrapper, with a personalized note wishing me a great week ahead! This bespoke touch warmed my heart, making me feel so proud. Immediately I knew that this was going to be the perfect way to send food hampers to my clients during the upcoming festive seasons!

Unwrapping the Splendour (Non-alcoholic) Hamper (SGD$115.00), I was really happy to find many unique and quality snacks sourced worldwide. In my years of sending and receiving food hampers, I always see things like Pocky sticks, Ferrero Rocher chocolates and Tong Garden nuts, etc - don't get me wrong, I have nothing against them, but it's just that I have been overdosing on them all these years during festive seasons :)   It was very refreshing to find Lotus Biscoff, Synders pretzels, Hamlet Belgium chocolates etc in my Splendour Hamper, and my teeth were itching to sink in.

To share a little about Simply Hamper - it is founded by Mr. Alexis Tan, who also owns the well-known florist, Simply Blooms. Specialising in hamper delivery Singapore, Simply Hamper is a social enterprise with strong beliefs that a Singapore hamper should be able to convey care and kindness to recipients, and contain practical items that are useful to them. Simply Hamper has a wide range of hampers for every occasion, such as baby & mommy hampers, fruit hampers, wellness hampers and food hampers. The categories are further sub-categorized to make it easy for shoppers, for instance under "Wellness Hamper" category, there are 4 sub-categories namely "Classic", "Tonic", "Wellness" and "Organic", making it very easy and user-friendly to search for what is most suitable for us.

How To Personalize Your Gift Hamper
Step 1: select your preferred food hamper from here
Step 2: choose your preferred template best suited for your occasion
Step 3: upload an image or logo of choice, along with a personalized message
Step 4: complete your order and wait for your recipients to be surprised.

From food to flowers to wine to tea to cheesecake and perfume, Simply Hamper has everything you could possibly hope to gift someone special. Oh, did I also mention that they offer free delivery service with no minimum spending?

Since I received my first hamper from them, I have never used anyone else whenever I want to do food hampers delivery with personalised wishes or congratulatory blossoms to my clients, friends and loved ones. Alexis and team provide excellent service so efficient, that they don't merely surprise my recipients, but I am often surprised by them as well.

Are you looking for food hampers delivery for a special occasion right now? Look no further, click here for the answer to your prayers now.

Thank you Simply Hamper for the gorgeous hamper, and for providing impeccable service for all my business / personal orders, never disappointing me once!

Having been dazzled by fine jewelry creations last year (review here), I was delighted to be back for this year's Singapore International Jewelry Festival ("SIJE"), where jewellers from all over the globe come to showcase their stunning collection of gemstones, diamonds, and other designer pieces. To be precise, there will be more than 223 exhibitors hailing from 26 countries!

SIJE is also Singapore's largest consumer jewelry show, as well as the region's most sustainable show. This year, some of the highlights comprise it's teaming up with HotLotz Auction House to offer longevity to jewelry and gemstones, remarkable showcase from exotic continents of Africa and Latin America, as well as an exceptional pigeon blood oval ruby set into a necklace.

The event commenced with an opening speech by Mr. Edward Liu, Group Managing Director of Conferences & Exhibitions Management Services (CEMS). This was followed by Guest-of-Honor Dr. Lily Neo' s speech and ribbon cutting ceremony, and introduction of the women leaders who are also SIJE's community partners.

A  bridal fashion show by Ann Teoh Couture ensued next, with models in beautiful gowns showcasing gorgeous pieces of jewelry from different jewelry houses.

Let's have a look at the setup this year. Yes, there are indeed jewellers from all over the world - Singapore, Japan, Burma, India, Europe, USA, Latin America, Africa, etc. The fine display of jewelry was both dazzling and enriching, as we made the rounds to interview various jewelry houses and their designers to find out what inspires them.

Finally, Goody-bag and media kits for us.

Thank you Nalini, Yu Fan and Dean from The Rain Makers for the invite once again!

Remember to head down to Marina Bay Sands this weekend to check out this dazzling international jewelry exhibition and choose something of your heart's desire.

Lunch at The Butcher's Kitchen @ Suntec City

3 Temasek Boulevard #02-472 Suntec City,  Tower 1 & 2, Singapore 038988
Tel: 9616 0111

The Butcher's Kitchen is a very spacious restaurant at Suntec City, with the motto of "Eat Well, Live Well; Be Happy". It is a casual dining restaurant serving quality cuts of meats, good food crafted by hand and prepared using a variety of different cuisine - be prepared to find steaks, pizzas, Thai Moo-ping (barbecued pork skewers), Kimchi pasta, Miso Onsen Eggs and seafood here.

Meat lovers would go crazy over this place - where fine cuts of beef, lamb, pork, chicken and sausages are served. The menu changes quarterly with weekly set lunch specials. Their fresh meats are proudly displayed at the glass chillers at the front of the restaurant. Its owner Mr. Lee Kok Lam believes in taking responsibility for their food and therefore works with recognised suppliers to ensure strict quality control, safety and reliability.

The current trend are their Flaming Beef Bowls. If you are lucky, you get to try their Flaming Hokkaido Beef Bowl (SGD$23.90) using Hokkaido-imported Wagyu beef. Even the Japanese rice is seasoned with Furikake (dried fish, seaweed, sesame seeds etc). However, this has limited servings every day and we didn't get to eat it even at 11.30am on a weekday morning!

So we settled for The Butcher's Flaming Beef Bowl (SGD$15.90) using Australian Wagyu instead of Japanese one. The thin and tender slices of beef are also with Cognac concoction; the bowl is topped with The Butcher's signature housemade sauce. This made for an utterly delectable meal.

The Butcher's Flaming Dice with Truffle Bowl (SGD$15.90) - Cognac-infused Wagyu beef cubes deliciously charred for that smokey hints amidst truffle's earthly aroma. One can have the choice of choosing rice or mashed potatoes - my friend chose rice for sustenance.

Overall dining experience here was not bad - quiet, spacious settings with quality food; the flaming of the beef bowls was pretty entertaining to watch as well.
