Having tried out various means of hair removal methods for Brazilian areas, such as Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) and E-pulse Light Treatment (EPL), Sugaring, etc, I was intrigued to give this new, patented laser technology Super Hair Removal (SHR) a try. This methods removes hair permanently and painlessly (depending on the level of heat adjusted for each individual).

As such, I visited True Shape Spa, located at Orchard Shopping Centre - a beauty and wellness centre with over 20 years of history and experience. Services provided by them include hair removal, facial, massage, brows and bust enhancement treatments etc. Service crew was chatty, friendly and very eager to up-sell.

True Shape Spa is spacious - a long unit filled with treatment rooms and even a shower room, for customers to wash up especially before Brazilian procedures. Decor is simple with muted sophistication and comfortable.  Even the treatments rooms are spacious, and stocked with many essentials for customers' after-treatment grooming requirements.

So, to share a little more about SHR - it is an advanced hair removal system, destroying hair follicles permanently by using low-influence repetitive laser pulses targeted at vulnerable hair follicles, providing contact cooling at the same time, resulting in a painless hair removal experience. Despite its painless glides upon the skin, each SHR releases 20 - 30 shots onto each hair follicle during treatment, a rather hefty difference against the usual light treatments releasing only 2-3 shots. I'm told thats its Advance Florescence Technology (AFT) can also provide whitening effect, thus customers who undergo this treatment are able to kill 2 birds with one single stone.

I agreed to try SHR for arms, legs and Brazilian areas. One is expected to shave their intended SHR areas before coming down for the actual session. After cleansing, a cool, clear gel was spread across my skin surface. My therapist Chloe then tested the heat of the device upon my skin. Once I gave my okay, she proceeded to apply the device to my skin.  Like IPL, strong bursts of bright light filled the room with each trigger.

Each limb took only around 5 minutes to complete; Brazilian took a little longer because of the tenderness of the area. Overall, my hair removal treatment for all 5 areas were completed within around 30 minutes - without pain or fuss, super efficient.

Did I feel more confident after the hair removal? You bet. I kept touching my arm to feel its baby-soft smoothness, and cannot wait for all hair to be permanently removed in due course (with 6-8 sessions, for my body hair growth condition). Thrilled to be trying out EPL Brazilian Treatment - you heard it right. Not a typo or misspelling of IPL. Let me share a little on E-Pulse Light Treatment. Only Nue Lifestyle offers this type of advanced hair removal treatment as of  now.

The usual medical declaration form filling and changing into white robe ensued, followed by donning the black protective eyewear prior to treatment.

One of the lastest hair removal technology, EPL works by delivering pulses of light into the skin at a specific wavelength which is selectively immersed in the hair follicle's melanin. The light energy then heats the pigment and effectively disables hair follicle without harming surrounding skin tissue.

In short, a painless way of permanent hair removal technique. Treatment was soothing and cooling all the way - starting with thick layer of cold gel spread across the lady parts, then the cold surface of device which emanated heat energy.

Review on VEET Hair Removal (Depilatory) Cream

Not easy being a female sometimes - besides the monthly physical pains we undergo, and sometimes being weighed lightly in a society of males, we also have to ensure that we do not walk around with bare limbs full of hair. The crowning glory is very fine - but other than that, we try not to sport hairy arms and hairy legs, so we succumb to various means of getting rid of unwanted hair on a monthly / weekly / daily basis (depending on how fast your hair grows back).

IPL Hair Removal is a good method - pain levels vary from person to person (and the therapists administering it), and it is said to slow down hair growth in the long term - if you don't mind the exorbitant price. Waxing is effective as well, and one could choose from hot wax or cold wax, but the compulsive pulling out of hairs' roots could hurt very badly, and leave pores sore or bleeding in extreme cases. This may not be suitable for persons with sensitive skin, like myself, who sometimes opt for Tweezing with a pair of tweezers literally - the latter could be rather therapeutic, strangely. That leaves the last alternative in lieu of covering up - Shaving. This method is very cost-effective as well, but new hair grows back thicker; one may also cut themselves accidentally if not careful with the blades.

That is why I choose VEET's Hair Removal Cream, also known as depilatory cream.  It is inexpensive, around SGD$15.00 for a 100ml tube, and readily available in Watsons, Guardians and some supermarkets. Besides this, VEET's hair removal cream is also scent-free, and has a few types to suit different individuals (i.e. I use the Sensitive Skin type, formulated with Vitamin E and Aloe Vera).

Besides that, it is effective and pain-free, literally. The entire process takes only around 10 to 15 minutes for each limb, so it can be done anytime, anywhere, even when you are travelling.  It removes hair by breaking down protein structure (keratin) of hair, dissolving the hair at the skin's surface.

HOW IT WORKS
Squeeze out a substantial layer over the area to be creamed, like your arms or legs. Use the included spatula to spread the cream evenly across your skin surface. Ensure that this cream is NOT used over open wounds or sensitive areas - also note that this is not ideal for bikini line and Brazilian areas.

If you are unsure whether your skin will react adversely to this product, test a small portion out first. Wipe the spatula clean after you have finished applying the cream over your body.

Leave the cream on for 10 minutes to dry. Use the spatula to remove the hair by pushing it in the reverse direction of hair growth. Start with a small area to test - if hair is still intact, leave it on for another 10 minutes before cleaning the cream off. Do not leave on for longer than 15 minutes.

The discarded cream should now be darkened and filled with tiny hairs that you have successfully removed from your limbs. Your skin, in turn, should be satin smooth and bare right now, with no visible bodily hair in sight. This would last a week to a month, depending on the growth rate of your body hairs.

Skin may be a little sensitive over the next 1 or 2 days, especially if you use harsh soaps or hit the beaches. Be sure to use a good moisturizer or aloe vera gel to soothe it, or avoid swimming in the next couple of days.

Also remember to wash and clean your spatula well, because you will be using it for the next few times as well. A tube of VEET's hair removal cream can last for 4 to 8 uses, depending on  how much cream you require each session and the frequency of your hair growth.

I stumbled upon this pretty beauty salon named Amber Beila at One Raffles Place, and was taken in by the hanging chandeliers as well as the staff's friendliness.  They also provide a range of facial treatments, massages and slimming treatments.

Ginger tea was served prior to the IPL Brazilian treatment, where I filled out a health declaration form and understood the different types of IPL Brazilian treatments they offer.

The Treatment Room was more spacious than some other parlours', and I was asked to clean myself with their anti-bacterial wipes. I also had to change into the charcoal gray robe.

Then their latest scientific technology E-Frost Light machine was rolled in. The therapist placed a pair of UV-protection glasses over my eyes, to protect against the glare of the light during the IPL session.

The therapist tried the cold IPL Brazilian treatment on me, but I thought it was painful (maybe due to the shocked sting of the cold applicator), so they switched me back to the conventional hot IPL Brazilian treatment.

I forgot to shave my nether hair for the first session and they did it for me (SGD$20.00), thereafter the treatment continued. No major discomfort except for waves of heat, and the treatment was over in about 20 minutes.

IPL Brazilian waxing prevents loosening of the skin at the nether region (as opposed to normal waxing / sugaring), slows hair regrowth, and has minimal irritation overall.

Having tried their IPL for face for a few sessions before (review here), I decided to use them for my virgin IPL Brazilian as well.  Anyway, Japan IPL Express was celebrating their 3rd anniversary in Singapore, hence inviting us to enjoy 100 free shots on 3 September 2016!

So I walked in, since they go by appointment basis, and gave them my telephone number for registration. Yes, over here, registration and checking of your visit history, remaining shots etc is all done using mobile number, no need NRIC or any member card.

The friendly consultant / therapist brought me to the clean and neat room, where I changed into the sky blue robe and used their antiseptic wipes to clean the relevant body parts. I then lay down on the bed where a clean sheet of paper was lain for me.

She then asked if I had any shaver; I said no, and bought one at SGD$1.98. Yes, it is required to shave or be shaved before the IPL Brazilian session. For hygiene reason, the shaver will be discarded after use though they would ask if you want to keep it beforehand.

Oh by the way, I had concerns about the antiseptic procedure, worrying that the same device used for face IPL might be the same one used for Brazilian IPL (silly me), then the therapist assured me that firstly, they use different devices for face and body; secondly they definitely sterilize before each usage.

I was also assured that it would be painless, after expressing how I felt during waxing and sugaring sessions. A pair of dark glasses were slung over my eyes for protection.

The IPL shots began after the therapist put a thick coat of cold gel on my female parts. While I could see bright flashes of light, I did not feel any pain indeed. All that I felt were warm touches whenever a shot was fired, killing off the hair follicles to prevent growth. There was no major discomfort.

The session ended around 20 minutes later and 115 shots were used on me. I cleaned up, got dressed, and paid up at the counter. A little up-sell was being attempted, asking me to take up more shots (in packages) so that the price of each shot goes down to 80 cents, 90 cents etc.

Other than that, service was good - warm and professional at all times. And I now boost a hairless nether region without suffering any agony at all. Though, the groin area is not smooth and "hairless" the way it is, after waxing or sugaring - short strays of the shave are still around. I had a couple of small bumps a couple of days later, making it rethink if IPL Brazilian is suitable for me.

After hearing all the amazing and sweet stuff about organic hair removal at Sugared, today, I finally headed down for my very own experience.  It is amazing what a simple ball of sugar is able to do.....without heat too.  Each session is SGD$60.00, and takes around 30 to 50 minutes.

From what I understand, this was supposed to be a painless hair removal process, using oganic and natural methods to achieve a hairless and smooth skin. I was also informed that while waxing removes hair from the same direction of hair growth, sugaring does the reverse, removing the tiny hair buds together as well, slowing down hair growth at unwanted areas.

Service, all the way from booking ( I did mine via Whatsapp) to registration to the actual procedure, was professional and friendly, and I was very comfortable with the entire communication throughout.

The location was a stone's throw away from Sixth Avenue MRT station, right after the Esso petrol station. Decor was simple, sleek and understated elegance, in tones of white and wood. Shelves of their products line the walls as well - from mud masks to facial scrubs etc, their products are all natural.

I went to one of the treatment rooms and my friendly therapist attended to me, explaining to me the procedure. Once I was prepared (not much, don't worry - basically just removing the underwear and lying down on the plastic sheet on the bed with towel covered), the therapist used wipes to clean up the area to be sugared.

She then used their (house?) Tonic followed by Powder on my body (the area to be sugared), explaining that while one was to disinfect and soothe, the other was to smoothen the process.

Then I was invited to examine the simple, natural ingredients that made up the main key tool for hair removal today - a mixture of sugar, lemon and water. They were being cooked in a small cooker, and she assured me that this mixture was edible, passing me a small portion to try.

Oh my gawd, it was delicious - sweet and sticky, reminiscent of malt candy, save for the zesty touch.

I climbed back into bed and she began the procesd of hair removal. My legs were bent inwards into "butterfly" wings and my hands were pulling my skin taut while she spread the huge ball of sugar onto my body.  And yanked.

Out came the hair! Leaving me reeling in shocked pain. Okay, to be fair, I guess I felt this painful because I had expected this process to totally painfree, hence the sharp stinging pain when she pulled the ball away got to me.

She was very meticulous, and we chatted away while she continued doing what she did best. After the sugaring process, she tweezed the remaining little ingrowth(s) away.  Her explanation was good, and she was knowledgeable.  I never knew Sugared has existed for 3-4 years in Singapore already!

Then she prepared a Mud Mask (SGD$18.00 per session) for me and spread that over my now raw-and-sensitive nether region. The mud mask was supposed to disinfect and soothe, and one may purchase a tub of it for facial use as well.

Yes, skin was definitely soothed, and smoother. I did enjoy my session here overall, and have since booked my next Sugar-ing session with them.
