Aglio Olio is a pasta reataurant unifying Western and Eastern culinary cultures, working in a Singapore twist to Italian dishes. They have a wide range of pasta and all comes with 4 levels of spiciness (mild, normal, spicy, extra spicy) - by chilli padi!

Place was small and tables were very cramped - but we went during lunch time so they might have been set for peak hour crowd. Service was pretty efficient and despite the fact that only 3 service crew were holding the fort, they cared to ask if everything was okay when I did not finish the pasta.

On the menu are different pasta types that go by aglio olio base, cream base, black pepper base, tomato base, pesto base, squid ink base, Vongole base, etc, cooked with different meats, seafood or vegatables. If one prefers fish or chicken etc, they have it as well.

We placed orders and topped up SGD$3.50 each for Soup and Lemonade. The Cream of Mushroom was pretty bland but one could find quite a fair bit of sliced button mushrooms at the bottom.

*K had an Aglio Olio Pasta with Vegetables (SGD$11.80), mild level of spiciness and she enjoyed it. The portion was huge but the pasta remained saucy all the while, and did not get dried up.

I opted for a Black Pepper base Beef Pasta (SGD$14.80) because I have not seen this pasta base at most places save for Swensens. I chose mild spicy level. The portion was generous and pasta strands were pretty smooth. Gravy was robust and spicy, redolent of black pepper's distinctive flavor - they put a good amount so that it kept pasta moistened yet not "drenched", and minced beef bits were succulent.

Quite enjoyed the simple pasta here with the innovative touch. The many different types of sauce also makes me keen to return to try something different again. They have another outlet at China Square Central as well, if that's closer to you.
