Dinner at Adrift Restaurant by David Myers @ MBS

It was time to celebrate The Beau's birthday, and I gave him the choice of 3 restaurants to choose from - he picked the fairly new Adrift by David Myers at Marina Bay Sands Hotel, so here we were.

"Adrift is a playful take on a kaleidoscope of experiences that will tantalize your palate." - Chef David Myers. A modern take on vibrant Izakaya, with Western and other Asian twists factored into the menu consisting of small plates, interesting mains and signature cocktails, Adrift seemed the perfect place for celebrations and having a good time.

The ambience was stunning - spacious restaurant with a glossy bar counter at the front, tables for smaller groups to dine in, followed by large "hanging" couches at the end of the restaurant allowing a peek into a garden (seen it in daylight - breathtaking).

Menu was Japanese laced with some Asian and Western touches. I have heard that the bespoke meals aka Omakase were to die for, but The Beau is a very fussy eater so I didn't dare risk something he'd dislike. Service here was polite, personable and efficient; pretty impeccable and smooth.

The complimentary starter comprised a few sheets of crisps - tasted like rice crackers and seafood crackers - with the most delicious Mentaiko-like dip.

Chicken Karaage (SGD$9.00) set the note for the night - a good starter of crispy deep-fried chicken with surprisingly tender interior and palatable in taste.

Brandt Beef Sirloin Steak (SGD$36.00) was a juicy slab of grilled beef slathered thickly with green spicy herb sauce at the top; pretty succulent texture and flavorsome in taste. Some crispy Garlic Chips served as sides.

Maine Lobster Dumplings (SGD$36.00) was an artistically beautiful dish - a pool of spicy cream sauce surrounding a bed of vegetables, chrysanthemum petals, crackling coral-shaped crackers and 5 plump dumplings. The dumplings were stuffed with pieces of fresh, sweet-fleshed Maine lobster and bonito fish, infused with the lovely gravy for a fiery kick.

Dessert selection was rather limited but unique - think Grapefruit Rice Pudding, Ice-Cream Sandwich and French Toast with Coconut Sorbet. We selected the latter.

At a mere SGD$10.00, the Caramel French Toast was rather big in portion. Crusty exterior cut apart easily and rich with caramel aroma, drenched in thick Kopi (coffee) syrup, topped with a small teaspoonful of coconut sorbet, this is a very much localized dessert with a beautiful medley of flavors.

Drinks were a glass of Pinot Noir (SGD$22.00), a Hibiscus Tea (SGD$7.00) and a pair of lovely ginger-infused Cocktails.

I also tried their Defying Gravity Cocktail (aka "Wicked the Musical cocktail" about a month ago and enjoyed it.

Overall, we enjoyed the dining experience at Adrift very much, and would hope to return again for more food and drinks. Thank you for making the birthday celebration a lovely one!
